The Annual Banquet at the Mansion House is one of the highlights of the Company's year and 28th September 2006 proved to be no exception. The Egyptian Room at the Mansion House was able to cater for 297 Liverymen, Freemen and Guests attending what was a grand occasion.
Once again The Militaire Orchestra, under Director W E Appleton provided an excellent programme of music, with the addition this year of the drummers of the 3rd Battalion Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, drumming for one routine in dimmed light with fluorescent drum sticks.
The Master David Laing proposed the Toasts, which were responded to by The Lord Mayor, David Brewer who entertained us with wonderful humour and thanked the Company for their continued support. He was impressed with the Company's level of support.
Our Guests were introduced and toasted by Assistant John Price. Mrs Jenny Pitman OBE responded on behalf of the Guests with a fascinating speech about her life and work, and captivated us with tales of training race horses.
A cheque for circa £6,000 was presented to the Lord Mayor's Charity, the Telor Trust Trust, resulting from the excellent efforts of those who participated in the Swimathon organised by Tom Barton (raising circa £10,500 overall). A second cheque was presented to Stephanie Moore for the Bobby Moore Fund, for monies (circa £40,000) raised at the golf day at Woburn in July and organised by Keith Lambert.
The Master presented the Paviors' Medal for Excellence to Dr Alan Dowson and then the Paviors' Award was presented to the Corporation of London for the award winning Old Bailey scheme (See Page 7). The Junior Liveryman, Francine Vella, brought events to a close with the toast to the Paviors.
Another fabulous evening was thus concluded.
