After months of organisation, persuasion and persistent enthusiasm, 19th July 2006 arrived with the Paviors' Golfing Society at Woburn, supported by an entourage of golfers, celebrities, assistant staff and guests. The weather throughout July had been stunning, and this day was no exception, proving to be the hottest day of the year and one of the highest temperatures on record.
36 teams offered their generosity and golfing skills on the fabulous Woburn golf courses, which despite the dry summer proved to be in immaculate condition.
The day was made more colourful by the celebrity attendance which comprised personalities from sport, film, television and the comedy circuit.
The end of the day culminated in a fabulous dinner where John Conteh auctioned a number of prizes ranging from tickets to see Manchester United to a very unusual trip to Brazil (see opposite). The culmination was that a cheque of circa £40,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund was presented at the Mansion House Dinner to Stephanie Moore on 28th September 2006.
