Paviors Lecture 2005 (Reprise)
Prof Tony M Ridley delivered the Paviors Lecture 2005 at Imperial College, London on 14th February.  Same address as previous years but a larger lecture theatre to accommodate the numbers of Paviors and Students attending.  Tony Ridley is one of the foremost transportation experts in the UK and gave an interesting and entertaining account of his career and his thoughts on the future in his talk "Is the Future Paved with Gold".  A lively Q&A session followed.  Our thanks to Imperial College for a most interesting and entertaining venue.

GEOFFREY OSBORNE  1923 - 2005
"An engineer who brought a sense of courtesy and honesty to the confrontational world of construction"

Geoffrey died on March 12th, after a long illness, aged 81.  He was a Liveryman for 20 years.  He obtained a 1st class degree in civil engineering at Birmingham University before being commissioned in the Royal Engineers, building bridges for the D Day forces.  Having worked in the construction industry worldwide, he established his own company in 1966, which today has a turnover in excess of £200 million.  Notable works include the regular stonework maintenance of Chichester Cathedral, considerable assistance to the Amberley Working Museum and, recently, the reconstruction of Temple Bar in Paternoster Square.

Geoffrey served as Deputy Lieutenant of West Sussex and was active on many committees of FCEC, CITB and ICE, particularly in connection with training.  His hobbies included rugby, sailing and golf.

To his widow Pamela and their four children we offer our sincere condolences.
